In local languages it is called laguni by the Waguni people and Kamtirrikani by the Tiwi people. The name Callitris comes from the Greek calli, meaning beautiful — a fitting tribute to the tree’s majestic presence. It grows along the Top End of Australia, from the Kimberley across Arnhem Land to Northern Queensland, living for up to 200 years.
