- Entheogenesis Australis conference
Fresh back from EGA (Entheogenesis Australis) which is the 2017 outdoor psychedelic symposium conference in Eildon, northern Victoria. Blown away and humbled. I was fortunate enough to be accepted for a talk at this conference, which has been a dream of mine with 2014. I promised myself back then that I would be presenting at this 2017 conference, and with great support form the universe, this dream came to fruition. Yay! My talk took on a new meaning when afterwards we discovered that 2 friends due to be down at the conference, were no longer with us, and had died this very weekend form drug related overdoses. Both of these beautiful men had been struggling in the midst of addiction and been in recent contact with me to organise to work with Iboga in Bali, in an effort to face some of their pains. Not this life. A sharp reminder of why I do this work. Here's a synopsis of the presentation I was a part of, reflecting on Iboga as an sustainable addiction recovery tool: http://www.entheogenesis.org/lecture/tim_williams_rachel_gagen I was also invited onto a panel discussion around the topic of 'Shamanism in the Modern World’ covering such controversial themes as cultural misappropriation, plant piracy, rituals, dogma and the like. What an honour to share the stage with Joe Tafur, Rak Razam, James Oroc and Steve McDonald, founder of PRISM! Here's a synopsis of the panel discussion: http://www.entheogenesis.org/panel/rak_razam_facilitator Highlights for me include: - Kat Harrison's talk on reflections of her time with the Mazatec people of Oaxaca in Southern Mexico including personal accounts of her experiences with Psilocybe mushroom species, and by the unique mint species, Salvia divinorum, as well as many other plant medicine spirits. She is my biggest inspiration; an amazing woman, EthnoBotanist, plant custodian & protector. Her feminine awareness of the pant-person relationship is profound. Check out her work at Botanical Dimensions: http://botanicaldimensions.org/ - Rick Doblin's update on the status of MDMA for PTSD psychotherapy going through Phase 3 trials in the USA as you read. He painted out the roadmap we're going down with a time frame (not very long away!) and the success stories for war veterans and people with severe trauma. The results are beyond amazing. One of the most successful treatment for PTSD around and proving to be safe, non-addictive, and actually effective. - Rowan's Communacacian Acacia cultivation workshop: fresh, engaging and hands on, teaching us all about the ancient Acacia and its plant medicine wisdom and lessons from the Australian land. - Catch ups with Julian Palmer hearing of all his latest and craziest adventures, as all my Ethno-enthusiastic friends whom are spread out across the country, and planet. What a strong advocate for plant medicine. http://julianpalmerism.com/ #ethnobotany #psychedelicconference #plantmedicine #iboga #addictionrecovery
- European adventures & wyld foragings
I find myself in my travels, always looking to the local plants to see what I can see. To see what I can eat and use as herbal medicine. Until I go for a nice long walk in the landscape of a place, I don't feel totally grounded. Only after my forest walks do I feel to begin to understand the land, I find drinking some fresh river water always helps to assimilate and adjust. Here's some of the wyld herbal medicine I found along my wanderings through Europe. So different to the medicinals of the Australia forests I live in. Life is abundant with.. Life! Hedera helix grows wyld everywhere! Ironically the sudden cool autumnal weather soon had me using the Ivy for respiratory congestion. Verbascum thapsus growing through the pavements. Mullein would have also been great for my lungs! But the Ivy did the trick just fine :) Geranium robertinium, or Herb Robert, on the side of the road, so tasty and so everywhere! Coltsfoot, or Tussilago farfara growing in the pastures. So many lung herbs! Must be to deal with the cold.. In Switzerland CBD, Cannabinadiol, is legal, and so it's sold in dispensaries for it's sedating, anticonvulsant, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and analgesic therapeutic actions. It indirectly works with the CB2 receptors in our cannabinoid system, moderating immune response, inflammation and pain. I trust one day this powerful medicine will be legally available in Australia and I'll be dispensing it in my own store! CBD is found naturally in Cannabis spp. and counters the plants stimulating and a strong psychoactive component THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, and can even be used for the treatment for Cannabis addiction (where THC use is involved). These plants are so perfect in their own unadulterated way as natural medicine. As CBD is legal, CBD rich strains are legal! They must be below a certain concentration of THC. A Swiss friend of mine explained how useful it's been to his own Cannabis use, which used to be chronic before the CBD strains were legally available, as Cannabis is becoming more and more bred for a strong THC content making it very psychoactive and strong (this comes at the expense of a rich CBD content to counter that effect). Now he can still smoke something delicious in a social setting, without any strong change in his mental state apart from being slightly relaxed. As it indirectly blocks some THC receptors this makes it less compulsive. Plants, not drugs! Whilst less wyld, it was a special treat to have Absinthe from the original Absinthe bar 'Die Grüne Fee' in Solothurn Switzerland (next door to the CBD dispensary), where the wormwood comes from the local arcana valleys full of green faieries. Perhaps the real highlight was to spend time with owner Roger Liggenstorfer, who runs the psychedelic book label upstairs Nachtschatten, hearing stories of his old friend Albert Hoffman. This town is kind of awesome, for the record. Across the road is the office of the psychiatrist Dr. Peter Gasser. He is the only doctor in the world legally able to prescribe LSD, lysergic acid diethylamide, a semi synthesised ergotamine indole alkaloid which is useful for many things, but namely life threatening diseases, coming to terms with death, and living peacefully without anxiety. The town also houses a psychiatrist working with MDMA. Switzerland is uber progressive. - European Ibogaine Conference
I have been fortunate enough to spend the last few weeks in Vienna, Europe ,downloading the latest news with Ibogaine, Iboga providers and addiction recovery workers from all corners of Planet Earth ad the European Ibogaine Conference on plant medicine. And what a beautiful city to experience it in mmm. I love Austria! Feeling inspired and on my path. Highlights include; - Micro-dosing on high quality community focused & grown iboga root bark directly from Gabon whilst closing my eyes and listening to the sounds of inspiration - The all women discussion panel on recovery including Deanne Adamson and Star Morrison - from the heart - Anwar Jeewa's talk on the positive effects of Microdosing long term with Iboga - the verdict is - keep doing it - Psymposium's psychedelic share-stories post-conference hearing about others' amazing encounters with Dr. Iboga including one of my inspirations Benjamin De Loenen from ICEERS (International Center for Ethnobotanical Education) and his personal encounter with the plant and how it teaches. - Dana Beal's general antagonistic & well-humoured banter to remind us of the warriors who have fought so hard on the forefront of ibogaine legislation for testing and the psychedelic movement since the beginning of this whole mess post-declaration-of-the-war-against-drugs over the last decades. What a legend! How I love my international Iboga family and the plant medicine community. #iboga #addictionrecovery #psychedelicconference #plantmedicine
- Post-antibiotic reflections
3 months post-antibiotics and I'm only just now feeling like I've getting back to something close to my baseline. Immediately after my foot surgery, which required heavy antibiotics in the tropical Bali, I began developing severe bloating, reflux at times, loss of appetite, a sluggish bowel, and constipation - the usual symptoms of poor bowel health. It was a shock to drop into this state after the long period of good health I was having on my antiviral detox. I have since had my first outbreak of cold sores on my lips, just in the middle of my practical work at my Herbal Medicine College - of course the most apt timing - when I'm stressed! So I haven't beaten them, but 6 months without an outbreak is quite an improvement from the fortnightly occurrence it was. I missed the whole final phase of my detox due to the surgery, and the pressing focus required to heal my gut health. I'm now taking monolauric acid in the form of Monolaurin, and a product with Slippery Elm & probiotics called EnteroCare (highly recommended!). Ulmus rubra is my kind of plant medicine, perfect for the gut issues I mentioned earlier. Being a mucilage it is unto itself a prebiotic, which is the food for good gut bacteria. It has a demulcent action and is soothing on the mucous membrane of our entire digestive tract from the mouth down (great for sore throats). This gives it an anti-inflammatory action, just to name a few of its uses. As well as that I'm back on the essential oils, which work great on the cold sore wounds themselves it seems especially to dry them out rather than keep them wet with the Zovirax cream. Just got to get the dose right or the oregano oil burns! Here’s to reculturing my microbiome. So antibiotics - they definitely have their place, in that I still have a foot thankfully, but not to be overused or underestimated. Antibiotics are hard core! But Slippery Elm saves the day! #antibioticrecovery #reculture #slipperyelm
- An unexpected interruption..
Entering into the final phase of the detox, I have had an unfortunate scooter accident in Ubud, Bali, and have had to put the cleanse on hold. With major surgery on my foot, injections of tetanus & antibiotics, a course of antibiotics, and no walking for the last 2 weeks.. So now I'm drinking this natural medicine antibiotic drink from one of my favourite Ubud cafes. Mmmm. I'll recommence soon. This has affected my last kambo cleanses as it is not safe to mix Kambo and surgery (blood clotting issues), my Iboga flood dose (I need to be strong!) and has delayed my final heavy metal and colon detox - which will be useful after the antibiotic bombing that has occurred in my gut biome community. A difficult decision to make, but considering the circumstances of infection risk in the humid tropics, I made my choice to eat the antibiotics and kill the remaining gut bacteria I've been breeding for the last 4 years since my last antibiotic dose. Time to re-colonise! And show gratitude for the advanced western medicine system that shines in emergency medicine. On a positive note I haven't had any cold-sore breakouts since I began, and have definitely been exposed to sun and stress plenty! I also ceased taking lysine and zinc since the detox began which usually prevented outbreaks. I've had orange juice and chocolate on a number of occasions which is known to flare up the outbreaks - no signs thus far. :) #kambo #reculture #antibioticrecovery #iboga

- The detox begins!
Today I start my 2 month herbal medicine detoxification. Not only is this a tribute to my own health and healing journey, but a living dedication to unraveling the lost and forgotten plant knowledge. In plants I trust. I really benefit from having a stern plan to commit to, where my stubbornness comes to use. And stern I will be. So here's the 101 on my virus detoxification. Keep in mind this plan has been formulated with HSV-1 (herpes simplex virus 1 - aka. cold sores) and EBV (Epstein Barr virus) specifically in mind due to my personal life story. After 25 years of vigilance, I contracted herpes late last year in a moment of physical depleted-ness. Since then it has been wreaking havoc on my face, and I am about done with this virus already. EBV I contracted after a trip to Bali a few years ago, surprisingly not long after my first experiences with Kambo the frog poison. After a week of 2 Kambo cleanses, and lots of physical and mental 'pushing', to return home to an epic festival where I ran a chill & dress-up zone; EBV and I bound our DNA. I experienced the meanest 2-3 day fever and developed a secondary bacterial mouth infection causing pericoronitis which stopped me from eating solids. This was the most acutely sick I have been, and my usual plethora of herbal medicine antidotes were seemingly powerless. 'Herbal Antivirals’, a great herbal medicine book by Stephen Buhner' introduced me to the power of some weeds just outside my window, and it was to the thanks of Bidens spp. and Sida rhombifolia that I hastened my recovery through chronic fatigue. However, I've had a recurring sore, dry throat every since which no medicine has yet to heal anything other than short term symptomatically. Since I am a singer, this just isn't acceptable. EBV targets the throat, so I am intrigued to see if this will disappear post-detox. Now, I am eradicating these dormant weapons. Viruses embed themselves into our cells, tricking the body into seeing them as a part of us. They make a lot of noise when they first settle in, and lay dormant 'for-ever-more' ready to re-strike (according to allopathic medicine). That's certainly not the reality I chose to believe in. It takes a specific approach to attempt to evict them. HSV1 & EBV are enveloped viruses, so I need to destroy their protective layers, so they are defenceless against the antivirals I'll be drowning them in, all the while purging them from my system, so as to not let them re-settle. HSV1 lives in the central nervous system, at the base of the spine. EBV in the cells and lymphatic system. I've been saying my goodbyes. Today I begin this natural medicine detox. #kambo #viraldetox #herpes #HSV #EBV #detox #cleanse
- The detox closes in!
In the true autumnal style of shedding; I am investing myself into a 2 month herbal medicine based detox with the intention to eradicate virus' from my body, and energetically all the stuff I've dis-identified myself with. I do not accept that viruses are incurable and will live that truth. Primarily I stand to remove HSV-1 & EBV and intend to utilise blood work to verify this post-detox. The herbal medicine is ordered & on its way, just practicing patience now. Meanwhile I'm finalising the fine print of this plan to make sure I've covered all bases with my light of consciousness so there's no shadowy corner for any infectious protein coated nucleic acid to hide. #viraldetox #herpes #EBV #HSV
